A Simple Mistake, by Nathaniel James

I remember that dark, cloudless June night in New York. I was 14 back then but because of my height and African-American, childish appearance I looked as if I was 12. My Grandma, who was in her 60s, and I were on our way home from evening church and I couldn’t wait to go to sleep. The evening breeze felt soothing as it rushed through my sleek dress. As we walked to bus stop with my mom, my mind was only focused on how I was going to get home fast enough so I could finish my homework and go to sleep. Maybe that’s why I didn’t hear my mom clearly when we spoke about how to get home.
“Get off the bus at Saint Johns”, said my mom, “and remember to walk slowly with your grandma. You know that she can’t walk very fast.”
“I know mom”, I said as I dosed partly in and out of the conversation, “you are treating me as if it was my first time going home with grandma.” “Excuse me”, snapped mom.
“The bus is here”, cheered grandma trying to end the conversation before it gets out of hand.
After grandma and I entered the B44 I paid the fair with moms’ unlimited metro card; I handed it back to mom and said, “Meet you home”. As the bus zoomed past the stops I thought I might be able to reach home fast enough to catch a little of the hit reality show, “America’s Next Top Model”. Out side the window I noticed it was really dark outside and the lights of city lamps and stores billboards were illuminating brightly. I barely noticed that the bus was skipping a lot of stops and before I realized it we were all the way at Eastern Park Way.
“O my gosh”, I said frantically to grandma, who sat next to me, “this is our stop”.  I anxiously pressed the bell to signal the bus to stop, and quickly relaxed as I realized my surroundings. I noticed the red Crown Chicken billboard and accepted the fact that I was close to home.
“Where almost home”, I told grandma, who seemed to be focused out the window. Expecting the bus to stop I started to get my pocket book ready, but after a few seconds passed I noticed the bus was still going. I panicked, “What’s going on”, I yelled in my head. But to refrain from making a scene I tapped the floor with my leg and peered out the window as we road down the never ending blocks. I knew that as each blocked flashed past me not only the further I was from home, but the deeper I was getting into an unknown part of New York.
I wouldn’t have mind if it was in the day time, because I would be able to see my surroundings, but now that its night time it was completely different. In panic and frustration all the possible things that could happen to me just came suddenly in my mind, from getting kidnapped, harassed, victimized, to even getting raped. All the while grandma began to murmur and looked side to side. I was doing my best to keep track of how many blocks needed to get back to Eastern Park Way, but then I  unfortunately lost track; luckily the bus never turned a single corner, so all I had to do was safely return home with my grandma.
Once the bus finally reached a stop, grandma and I left confused. Once I scanned the area I noticed we were at the corner of Lincoln Boulevard and Nostrand Av. Then I remembered that the last thing my mom said was that I must get off at Eastern Park Way, and purple sign with orange letters explained every thing. The bus was Limited. All along I was planning to get off at Eastern Park Way and just walk home from there, but it was impossible to do on a Limited Bus. The closest stop to get off was Eastern Park Way. In embarrassment, I cried. After I finished I said a little prayer and side by side grandma and I started walking.

A Free Verse Poem

I sit and look out my bedroom window and see this worlds pangs of distress,
Born and unborn baby's die because unprepared parents refuse to be responsible,
Ethnic backgrounds clashing and committing crime is so common,
to the point where it's normal for people to die left and right,
With  constant competition to reach the top of the financial tower,
many people can care-less about who they heart to reach their,
And with this bad economy trying to get back on it's feet,
People of large multitudes lose their jobs and end up homeless,
Rummer of a upcoming W.W.III,
global worming, the epidemic of H1N1, HIV,
and others only add to the distress,
When will the list stop?!!

Adventures Abroad

One of the most interesting places in the world to visit is New York. This place has everything! There are wonderful mountains for discovering, and lakes that are perfect for relaxng.

Just 14 years ago, people were discovered in New York. Since then, people have been traveling from all over the world to see them. And no trip to New York would be complete without a day trip to see the great pigeon in the country's largest forest.

The best time to travel to New York is winter. At this time of the year, many people have seen snow and pine trees in the countryside. The weather is usually cold, so it is the perfect time to sled. Just remember to pack hot chocolate . You wouldn't want to be high in the mountains without them!

The people of New York are very exiting and enjoy showing tourists their local hotels. Remember to bring your hot chocolate , and you'll have a great time in New York. You might even bring the local tradition of exasperating back home with you!

Drinking and Driving

For some reason their are drivers who think, despite the fact that they chugged down more alcohol then they can withstand they still want to get on the road. Foolish thinking like this and a verity of others give drunk drivers  reasons to get behind the wheel and risk their lives as well as others. Many thousands of people get into accidents that ether get seriously hurt or die, which makes this custom very dangerous.

Phenomenal Woman by: Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Police Taser Innocent Student

On Jan 29, 2010, police officers used a taser to stun a student after a fight broke out between 2 girls in the hallway, at a high school basketball game in Monessen, Pennsylvania. The incident happened outside the gymnasium at Monessen High School during a game on friday, with Washington High. Officers say the fight grew to the point where players became involved. That's when police were called and the situation became dangerous. Police started to use tasers to brake the fight, but they targeted the wrong student. The victim, Mario, only wanted to get his sister, but staff targeted him as though he was the problem. A staff called a cop to assist him and tasered the innocent student. Mario was able to get away but he said after he was tasered, "I felt pain like never before". After reviewing video from the incident I think that the staff of the school are the blame, because they failed to control the problem. Fights happen, but if they're not controlled immediately it can become serous. If the problem was controlled their would not have and accidents nor would any one be injured.

The Story called "The Piano Lesson"

In my English class i'm reading a book entitled, "The Piano Lesson" by August Wilson. Based no my reading of the first scene, I think the story is interesting. Right now I don't have a favorite character, because each character is steadily showing their true colors. Like how a Character named Boy Willie urges to sell the family's' most sacred artifact, the piano. Just so he could help himself buy land to start his own business. While his sister Berniece, don't want to sell the piano but instead enjoy life without any problems. And the other characters like Doker, Lymon and Avery also have important roles in the play, but not any thing that catches my attention. In the next scene I think it would discuss weather or not Boy Willie will get the piano and if he's able to get the land he wants.   I

The African Chrismas

Kwanzaa is a holiday that is celebrated by some African-Americans in the U.S.A. which lasts for 7 days from Dec. 26 –Jan. 1. It focuses on the values of family, community, responsibility, commerce and self-improvement. This holidays name is from the Swahili phrase “matunda ya kwanza”, which means “first fruits”. A tool that is used in this celebration is the kinara, which represents our ancestry. The color black, red, and green stands for the candles and the 7 principals of the long lasting Christmas and New Years celebration. Each day of the holiday holds different principals. They are unity, self determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith. The principal of unity stresses the importance of family and community union. The principal of self-determination requires that we find a common interest and make decisions that are in the best interests of our family and community. The principal of collective work and responsibility advice us to look back in our past, see what’s happening now, find a purpose for our future, and find a personal role you play in the world. The principal of cooperative economics emphasizes our collective economic strength and encourages us to meet common needs through mutual support. The principal of purpose advise us to set personal goals that benefit the community. Finally the principal of faith focuses on helping us to have confidence in our ability to triumph over struggles. Out of the seven principals I like all of them the most because they all revolve around helping yourself and those around you.

A Frightining Tale

Under the hill in Clinton Hill Park, their once lived a bum who was as unique as can be. This transsexual was known to be an innocuous being, because he does not bother people for money nor food. But their is something really ponderous about what he find enjoyable. Even I the writer find it hard to explain his nebulous urge. He would go to the playground and sit there watching the children play on the monkey bars and pick out kids who he notices are accompanied by no one. Then with his bare hands he snatches them up and bring them to his home under the hill and torture them. not even trying to be solicitous, he would slowly saw off their limbs and force the kids to feed off of it. those who die he would consume in front of his hostages. Assiduously he would gorge on the dead and watch in aw as the kids weep in dis-spare. Sad to say he believed in living under apartheid and since he is African-American, he only target the white and Latino race. He flees back to his home when he spots indigenous blacks, for he fears he would pray on his own kind. He soon had a son, who quickly because he is his only complicity. together they raised hell. One day bums son was spotted snatching a child and was thrown behind bars. As a parent, the sons' father had to be his sons reparation. after all the wrongs were corrected the gov. arrested both cannibalism and charged them for murder. Days and years past and no one spoke of the story.

My Advance Class

I am in a math class called math B. Usually, students take geometry in the 9th and then trigonometry in the 10th, but this class allows me to take both classes in the 9th grade. Since I took the algebra regents in the eighth grade, I am now in a math B class. I'm going to take the math B regents at the end of ninth grade in June.

You Can Find Anything On YouTube

YouTube can simply be described as a place for entertainment. YouTube is a place where anyone can watch videos, clips or parts of a show and even exclusive videos. If an individual wants to upload a video, they must first create an account with YouTube. After the short process is completed, the hard part is uploading the video. Videos can be uploaded from your camera and certain sites only. The video will be there forever unless you the user decided to take the video off the site. The video can be watched anywhere and everywhere around the world. I must say, Youtube is one of the places that I use for entertainment being that I can listen to music as well as watch videos.

Tech Word Hear We Go

I would give CNET thumbs up. I would also recommend this website to people. This website is where you can look for electronics, such as camera, games, tv, dvd player and many more. Not only do they show you pictures of it. They also show you videos of how to use them. I would recommend this website because I think that it is great for searching for electronics.

The Tale of 2012

If you click this link, Apocalypse 2012 you will be sent to a site that will explain a variety of things that may happen during the year 2012.  in this site there are people who be leave the world is going to destroyed in the year 2012. In my opinion, this may not be true because many people said that in the year 2000 the world was going to end, but it didn't. Even though global warming,  drouts, food shorteges, desieses and other apedemics exist, I still don't beleave the world is coming to a close . I recommend anyone who believes in this prediction to go to this site and read the post. Enjoy.

Another Lesson Learned

In my short life I learned many rules that must be followed in and outside of the home like proper manners. I remember in my pre-school, there was a sneaky girl who never got in trouble because one of her parents worked there. She would eye the class to look for someone to get in trouble and one day she chose me. I guess I attract a lot of bullies because I look innocent and helpless. So she decided to “bad mouth” me in front of my (at the time) closest friend. My friend started to join in the fun and made little jokes as well. Not knowing that the girl was serious. As the seconds went by I got very upset and since I did not want to be a “tater-teller”, I forgave my friend but told the girl a piece of my mind. I said, “The wart on your arm was your mother’s face and that you are as ugly as your ashy lips.” I felt good until I turned around and saw my teacher glaring at me. That day I lost 3 behavior stars. I still wonder where the teacher was when the little girl was teasing me. I learned that is good to be a “tater-teller” at times, because it’s better to snitch and get away from problems opposed to getting in trouble.

A Good Person

In my 13 years of life, getting involved in any form of violence was extremely uncommon. I don’t get into problems with anyone to a point where we have to fight. I don’t hang out or socialize with people to fight with them. I do it to get to know them and become a good companion. I don’t really spend time with classmates. I’m used to working so-lo. In fact I work fine when I work alone, but I have learned it is best to work together in groups to get work done quickly and more effectively. So I really maintain a far distance from violence, and I felt that trait I carry is very beneficial when people start to understand me.

Around my Hood

My neighborhood was not the most popen nor the
quietest. I live in one of the buildings that hides the
parkway, so people just come and go. In my
neighborhood the neighbors would usually speak to you
only if you are known by someone who lives in the area.
My neighbors are nice people who look for people to talk to. If you look like someone nervous and don't know your way, you as a person would look suspicious and people may or may not mutter quietly about you. Overall in my   neighborhood you should not linger. You should just do what you got to do and say hi and bye, because drugs are sold and people get suspicious quickly and you don't want to get into it.

A Little Baby But a Big Change

I was a single child for more than 12 years and it was sweet. All the attention, love and gifts went directly to me. Their was no competition nor any stress. But during the many years I felt I was recieving a little to much attention. The daily check-ups on my health and wellbeing interfered with my personal schedule. I got never ending interviews on every detail of my life like did I brush your teeth?, don't forget to brush your hear, who called and why?, where am I going and for how long?, and the list goes on. I understand the reminders and questions are for my well being and are arranged out of love, but where is the trust that I can take care of myself. Now I have a baby sister and the freedom is breathtaking but so is the isolation. All eyes are on the baby and little or no time for me.  I got the freedom I always wanted but it severed the bond I had with my parents. I drew so accustomed to the attention, I did not really take advantage of it. Being a big brother also has its benefits. I have another sibling to play with  and one with allot of energy to. I really love my sister and my parents, I just want to feel the same from them.

The Wonders of Autumn

Autumn (other known as fall) is my favorite season of the year. this time of the year the summer trees leaves start to lose their greenish color and fall. The view in the public parks become colored in a spectacular blend of orange, red, green, brown, and every color in between. The squirrels collect the fallen seeds and store them for winter. The birds gather twigs and fallen branches to create nests to stay sheltered through the winter. The temperature has cooled down from the  blazing summer and is awakening winter. I can't come out of the house with a T-shirt cause it's too cold nor can I depart with 5 different layers of clothes cause i'd be to hot. So over a shirt I just need to throw on a sweater an i'm good. The school year is going strong and by now I have adapted to my teachers. Plus my birthday is within the season, which makes Autumn the best time of the year.

"This is It"

My opinion on the video "This is It"  is, it is way to interesting to be so short. the video showed Michael Jackson rehearsing before the "This is It" show and that the rehearsal is almost a replica the actual show. This shows the difference in skill that Michael Jackson poses that many other famous singers/dancers do not. It's just very sad to know that he is not alive any more to create new dance moves nor show off the moon walk.
